Aldersgate United Methodist Church is using a new Congregational Care Ministry program that has been designed especially for people in need within our church community. This program replaces the Stephen Ministry program Aldersgate has had for several years.

Our current Congregational Care Ministers have all received training through Stephen Ministry, as well as additional training through a congregational care training program offered by Church of the Resurrection.

Congregational Care Ministers aim to bring healing and grace to those who are in need. They focus on active listening, care giving and walking alongside anyone who has a care need. They will journey with you through storms you may encounter. They are trained to give care spiritually and theologically, with the goal of helping to provide healing for brokenness.

Congregational Care Ministers are prepared to walk with you through many obstacles. They will come to the table with you in prayer, mentoring, guidance and sacramental love through scripture, tradition, experience, and reason.

Training for new Congregational Care Ministers will be offered annually, so watch for more information.

Aldersgate is committed to helping children and youth be active members of our faith community.

We have a variety of age-appropriate small group activities available for students ranging in age from preschool through high school. We also have a number of ways that children and youth can take part in service and mission projects.

Ways to Serve Children’s Ministry:

Teaching PAL time

Mentoring with JAM – As a volunteer with JAM your greatest role is as a role model. You would help lead discussion and aid in community building. Studies show that children who have 3 or more non-relative role models in the church are more likely to retain their faith through high school and into college. Our community building and discussion activities are designed to cultivate these relationships around biblical and real-life topics. Input is always welcome, but the planning is done for you and starting questions/talking points are provided.

Volunteering for Children’s Ministry Events (Trunk R Treat, Advent Activities, Lenten Fair, VBS etc.)

Summer Reading Programs

We are collecting books for two different groups:

Olathe School District Summer Reading Program provides enrichment or children ages 5-11.

Reach Out and Read Kansas City provides books for children, birth through age 5, in low-income families.

We are collecting gift cards for students returning to school in the fall. Please contact the office for more information.

Westview Partnership

For several years, Aldersgate has looked for ways to support Westview Elementary, a 60-year-old Title 1 school with a diverse student population.

We’ve enabled students to take special field trips, provided Christmas gifts for Westview students and their families and baked homemade cookies and provided a soup and salad meal in appreciation of Westview teachers.

Annual Rummage Sale 2021: Thursday July 22nd – Saturday July 24th!

The Rummage Sale is BACK and BETTER THAN EVER this year!

Saturday July 24: 9am – 2pm

Our annual Rummage Sale benefits Aldersgate’s Music Ministries.

Nearly one billion people in the world are affected by global hunger, and 25,000 people–many of them children–die each day from hunger-related issues. You can help to make a difference.

Volunteers will package 24,000 sealed, nutritious meals of rice, soy protein and freeze-dried pinto beans, along with a blend of vitamins and minerals created specifically for malnourished people.

Aldersgate food packages will be boxed and then shipped to Convoy of Hope where they will be combined with boxes from other food packaging events.

Convoy of Hope then expects to send them on to East Africa where there is a critical need for food.

Numana, a non-profit international hunger relief organization, facilitates food packaging events through the country. Each packaged meal, put together in an assembly line fashion, costs 30 cents.

Aldersgate volunteers regularly help with Habitat for Humanity projects.

On Dec. 2, 2017, Aldersgate volunteers helped to put up the framework for a new home. Here’s the thank you that Habitat for Humanity sent to Aldersgate: “A huge shout out goes to the awesome volunteers from Aldersgate! These amazing volunteers worked tirelessly putting the walls together. They got to use all kinds of tools to create a brand new home for a family. It looks incredible! Thank you so much to the volunteers from Aldersgate from all of us at Habitat for Humanity and the families and communities that we serve.”

In 2018, Aldersgate volunteers took part in four work days to help clean up Olathe neighborhoods and houses.

Habitat is about more than just building houses. Habitat works to build strength, stability and self-reliance through shelter.

Our annual Christmas Service Project is back once again!

All of the Westview students have been adopted for this season! Thank you so much for your support of this project, year after year! If you would like to still support Westview, we are accepting monetary donations to help with additional costs.

We ask that you bring all your items on Sunday, December 11th by 10:30 AM. We ask that you do not bring your presents before then, as we do not have much storage space!
